How it happened

Developed for races that require driver change. In races that require frequent driver changes, it is more accurate and less wasteful to just flip up the steering wheel (tilt-up) rather than attaching and detaching the steering wheel with a quick release. In order to meet this need, we have renewed the RAPFIX GTC, which was already released for use on public roads, as a competition-specific part.

Features

Pulling the large lever, which was designed specifically for competition, allows the plug of the vehicle side component and the socket of the steering wheel side component to tilt up. A suspend function that stops the car at any angle and a hold function that eliminates the need to operate the lever during tilt-down.
When tilt down, simply hold the steering wheel and tilt down, and the two recesses in the plug and tapered holes in the socket are fitted with precision steel balls for ball bearings. They are perfectly connected by the force of the coil spring that loads the sleeve arm.
The ball locking system established for the Rapfix series is used to achieve smooth hinge opening and closing and locking without wobble.
Problems of rattle and wear have been eliminated. It contributes greatly to the driver's severe steering wheel operation.

Specifications

Developed exclusively for competition vehicles. The plug mounting surface is equipped with 3 PCD50.8mm holes and M5P0.8 screw holes.
The steering wheel mounting area is also 50.8mm PCD with 6 M5P0.8 tapped holes, 2 electrical contacts can be installed as an option to accommodate various electronic functions, and space is provided on the steering wheel mounting surface to allow for wiring to escape for convenience.

Strength

Tests are conducted in accordance with the NAPAC standards (*1), which are the product standards for the Japanese aftermarket.
The results of these tests demonstrated that, although there was a small amount of permanent deformation in the bend test, it was still possible to tilt up afterwards, and the torsion test demonstrated that there was no problem at all under the specified load.To find out the ultimate tilt-up limit, we applied a bending load to the rupture, and it was confirmed that the rupture occurred at 38 kg-m (372 N-m) due to significant elongation and rupture, but the rupture did not occur and the rupture continued to be gradual, and the rupture was not impossible to steer.
In addition, an internal test of 30,000 repetitions of tilt-up, tilt-down (lock) operations confirmed that it can be operated for 30,000 times without replacement of any parts, although it is necessary to lubricate each part during the test.

(*1) In this strength test, the transmission of steering force through steering wheel steering and radial force is tested by applying a static load of 29.7 kg-m (291 N-m) as a torsional test to ensure that there is no breakage, and the bending test, in which the driver's weight is applied to the top position of the steering wheel, is performed as a bending test. It is considered to be 19.8 kg-m (194 N-m) with a static load of 19.8 kg-m (194 N-m) without failure.
